A man has died following a collision in Hall Green on New Year’s Eve (31 December).

The 37-year-old man was taken to hospital following the collision which took place on the Stratford Road, close to the junction with Fox Hollies Road, shortly after 11.30pm.

The man is believed to have been struck by a Silver Mercedes E220. Police are appealing for witnesses, who may have seen the car, which they say was heading in the directon of the city, prior to the collision.

The man passed away yesterday (4 January). His family are being supported by specialist officers.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving above the legal alcohol limit. He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Police statement

A statement from West Midlands Police, read: “We are appealing to anyone with dashcam footage who was in the area at the time and any witnesses to the collision to get in touch.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:“This is a busy stretch of road with lots of people about, so I am really keen to hear off anyone who witnessed the collision or captured it on dashcam footage.

“Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this difficult time and we will continue to support them.”
