A dramatic photo of a lorry on fire on the M6 in the West Midlands has been released. The vehicle has caused miles of traffic congestion with emergency services in attendance.

The image shows flames leaping out of the lorry that is stopped on the M6. Thick plumes of smoke were seen blazing out of the vehicle. It is not known if anyone was injured.

Traffic has been stopped on the M6 southbound in the West Midlands between J10a (M54) and J10 (Walsall) due to a lorry fire.

West Midlands Fire Service are now in attendance, and traffic remains held up. Congestion has grown to 5.5 miles. The West Midlands Ambulance Service and the West Midlands Fire Service have been contacted for their comment.

The National Highways updated on Twitter that oil and diesel has also spilt onto the road surface, but they are not anticipating a full closure will be needed.
