Loaded gun seized in a Perry Barr park

West Midlands Police discovered a loaded gun stashed in a park in Perry Barr.

The antique revolver was found wrapped in a towel inside a plastic bag, hidden in undergrowth in Witton Lane Gardens.

Officers from Project Guardian taskforce made the discovery just before 9am on Monday (March 28).

It was loaded with six bullets. The gun will be forensically examined and ballistically tested to see if it is linked to any shootings in the West Midlands or beyond.

What have West Midlands Police said about the gun discovery?

A police spokesperson said: “It’s a really significant find and has potentially saved lives.

“The find came as part of a day of action in Aston by the taskforce that also included arrest attempts plus patrols – both on foot and in police cars – to keep people safe and look for crime suspects.

“The Guardian Taskforce works around the clock to identify and arrest violent offenders – but also works with children and young people to divert them away from gangs and crime.
