Ladywood murder investigation launched as man found dead in the street

Police have launched a murder enquiry after a man was found with fatal injuries outside the Cross Keys Banqueting Suite in Ladywood in the early hours of today (21 February).

At just after 3.15am West Midlands Police officers were alerted by ambulance colleagues to a man with serious injuries on Steward Street. Sadly the man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

A cordon has been put in place as the force carries out investigations.

Officers have spoken to a number of people in the area and are looking at CCTV cameras that may have captured what happened.

The man’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

What has West Midlands Police said?

Detective Inspector Adam Jobson, from Force CID, said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this sad time. Our investigations are in the early stages, and a scene is currently being held around Steward Street as we continue to forensically examine the area.

“There is an increase in police presence around the area to offer reassurance to people with concerns.

“Anyone who saw anything or has dashcam or CCTV from around the time of the incident, should please let officers at the scene know or call us on 101.”
