Fire crews help man attacked with ‘acid’ in Hodge Hill supermarket car park

A man, who had acidic substance thrown at him in a supermarket car park in Birmingham, received treatment by emergency responders. The police said that it was a “targetted attack” and they are investigating it.

On Tuesday (April 11), the victim, a 23-year-old man, was attacked right after 11pm on Coleshill Road, Hodge Hill. The victim also suffered a knife wound to his head, is currently receiving treatment in hospital. His condition is not life threatening.

West Midlands Police said: “We know this will be worrying and want to reassure the public that we are doing all we can to identify the offender.

“We believe this was a targeted attack with no threat to the wider public.”

West Midlands Fire Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service were also called to the incident. Two fire engines from Erdington and Ward End, crewed by 10 firefighters, attended the call. The first arrived within three minutes of being mobilised.

West Midlands Fire Service said: “It appears a man had a substance thrown at him, in a supermarket car park. He was treated by firefighters and the ambulance service, and is believed to have then been conveyed to hospital.”

One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene as well and delivered treatment on the scene. The 23-year-old victim had serious injuries that were not life threatening, said West Midlands Ambulance Service.
