Police have charged a man after seizing two handguns in Wednesbury.

West Midlands Police officers said they seized the guns at an address in Charlotte Road on July 14. They named the suspect as Donovan McEwan, aged 39. He has been charged with two counts of possession of a handgun and possession of ammunition.

He has also been charged with a separate offence of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. Police said McEwan was remanded in custody and will appear at Birmingham Crown Court on August 14.

The arrest was part of Operation Target which sees West Midlands Police taking a “defiant stand” against a range of serious and organised crime offences – from drug dealing and burglary to cyber crime and fraud.

A spokesperson for WMP explained: “Officers will be using local intelligence, seizing goods, carrying out warrants and targeting offenders as part of Op Target’s ongoing crackdown against serious and organised crime.”
