A man injured in a hit-and-run in Kingstanding last month (May) has died.

It happened on Kings Road during the early hours of Wednesday 18 May.

Thomas Maguire, aged 30, was on a motorbike which was hit by a Ford Focus.

He was in hospital in a critical condition but died on Thursday (9 June).

The occupants of the car fled the scene, but police have made eight arrests in connection with the incident.

Five people aged between 15 and 34, were arrested on Wednesday 18 May on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking. They remain on police bail.

Police arrested a 41-year-old man and two women aged 40 and 38 on suspicion of attempted murder.

They have been released on bail pending further investigation.

Family tribute

The family of Thomas have paid tribute saying: “In loving memory of Thomas Maguire, you will be loved and missed by your fiancée, your seven boys, mom, brother and the rest of the family. Together forever Maguire.” Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, from our homicide team, who has now taken over the case, said: “This is upsetting news and my thoughts are with the loved ones of Thomas.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we continue to appeal for anyone who saw what happened or was walking or driving past Kings Road around midnight on the evening of Tuesday 17th May going into Wednesday 18th May, please get in touch.

“Similarly if anyone was driving nearby and has dash-cam footage I would ask them to check their video to see if they have caught any relevant footage on camera.”
