Disorder breaks out at Crooked House pub site as supporters protect bricks from thieves

Police are investigating after a woman was run over by a car and two other people assaulted when violence broke out at the site of the demolished Crooked House pub.

Officers were called to reports of a disorder in Himley, Staffordshire, at around 8.30pm on Saturday evening (September 9). Witnesses said a "group of idiots" clashed with supporters of Britain’s wonkiest pub who have been trying to protect the site and stop people from stealing bricks.

Police said a man and a woman were assaulted by several people before the pair then tried to get into a car and drive away. The man and woman were then obstructed before the car was involved in a collision with a female pedestrian, who was not seriously injured.

The vehicle drove away from the area but the man and woman later contacted police about what happened. The woman was then taken to hospital for assessment but has since been discharged. A camp which was set up by locals at the site following the demolition of the famous burnt-down boozer has now been dismantled.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "There’s been a group of us up there every night but I’ve pulled away now this happened. It’s really stressed me out. I didn’t see what happened but there’s been a group of idiots going up there and causing trouble.

"It’s probably because they want to get access to the site to dump rubbish or nick bricks or something but I’m not doing with this silliness. I didn’t know who was attacked or injured but we’ve been getting a lot of stick for just going up there and protecting the site. We were just trying to do a nice thing but I’m done with it now if people are going to be violent towards each other. "

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "Officers have been speaking to those involved to establish what happened and are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, particularly those who may have recorded it.
