12 Commonwealth Games medals for University of Birmingham alumni & students

Students and alumni of University of Birmingham secured medals in Commonwealth Games 2022 across multiple sporting events, including hockey, Judo, and cycling

University of Birmingham alumni and students secured a total of 12 medals in the Commonwealth Games 2022.

The University was an official partner of the Games and was the host to the hockey, squash and athletes’ village. It was also the training venue for swimming and athletics. The University also has the only 50m pool at its campus in Edgbaston. The University provided other services and facilities as well such as catering for the athelets. It served 195,000 athlete meals at the campus.

Team England won 176 medals, of which 57 were gold, in the 2022 Games and was just behind Australia, which won 178. The top five medal-winning nations included Canada, India, and New Zealand.

While the 11-day mega event is over, Birmingham has more to celebrate because of its successful performance in sports.

Hockey

Alumni Nick Bandurak - Team England’s men’s hockey - Bronze
