With Christmas just around the corner our minds are set on joy, warms and good food. But even during the happiest of times, injuries can occur, and a need for a GP or a walk-in centre can appear.

Just like other services and amenities like pharmacies, supermarkets and even bin collection, Christmas and New Years will affect GP and walk-in centre opening times. And with cases if influenza and COVID-19 going up across the country is what has been called a “twindemic” and Strep A cases being reported around the UK, there might still be need for one over the season.

Unfortunately, the majority of GPs and walk-in centres in the Birmingham area will remain closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and December 27 (Christmas Day observed), and only operate normal working hours from December 28th before again being affected by New Years. So in the last few days before the holidays, getting an appointment might be harder than usual.

A few pharmacies in Birmingham will be open on Boxing Day but with reduced hours. If you are running low on prescription medication and need a renewal or a check-up, it is highly recommended that you contact your GP or doctor as soon as possible in order to not risk running out of important medicines during the holidays.

If you or someone you know needs medical attention during the festive season, a few GPs and walk-in centres will be open on Boxing Day. Please use the NHS Find a GP service to find the opening times for your nearest GP or walk-in centre.
