M6 closures planned for works between two junctions near Birmingham over two weeks

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys when a number of overnight closures take place on the M6 near Birmingham.
National Highways is carrying out safety enhancements on the M6 between junctions 4 (Coleshill) and 5 (Castle Bromwich), including replacing the steel central reservation with a more modern, concrete barrier.

Hide AdThe government owned company said the installation of the new barrier will significantly reduce the risk of vehicles crossing over from one carriageway to another. It is now reaching an end and the work is switching to the motorway verge.
Enhancements to be carried out there include drainage improvements and the construction of three new emergency areas. The traffic management system will now switch to the verge.
Most of the work will be carried out with lane closures but, to ensure the safety of workers and road users, there will be the following full road closures:
Thursday 13 October:
Full northbound closure M6 between junctions 4 and 6
Northbound M6 junction 4 entry slip road closed
There will also be a full closure of the M42 northbound to M6 northbound slip road and the M42 southbound to M6 northbound link road.
Monday 17, Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 October:

Hide AdThe M6 southbound will be closed between junctions 6 and 4 also the M6 junction 5 southbound entry slip road.
The M6 junction 6 southbound link road from A38 Salford Circus roundabout will be shut and the M6 junction 6 link southbound from A38 (M) Aston Expressway.
All closures take place between 9pm and 6am each night with the exception of Tuesday 18 October when the closure will begin at 11pm.
Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place.
