A brutalist dive bar is coming to Stirchley - and it’s looking very cool

Birmingham’s ultimate chicken street food restaurant is branching out of the city centre to the Independent Republic of Stirchley.

The south Birmingham suburb is attracting a wealth of Birmingham’s top hospitality talent, with the likes of Buddha Belly from Digbeth Dining Club opening recently next door to Japanese cocktail bar Ikigai, which was previously upstairs at 1000 Trades in the Jewellery Quarter. Now Bonehead, just around the corner from John Bright Street on Lower Severn Street, has announced that it is opening a brutalist dive bar.

We’re not too sure what a brutalist dive bar is either - apart from the fact that Birmingham is renowned for having lots of brutalist architecture and dive bars are cool places to go if you like old style drinking haunts, which means it’ll fit in perfectly for Stirchley.

The venue is called Dead Beat and is due to open next to the popular Stir Stores on Thursday June 1. Bonehead said: “We’re super excited to announce that we are opening a new bar called Dead Beat in Stirchley! Dead Beat - a brutalist dive bar, will be a creative space showcasing great music, wine, beer and food. We’ll have six beers on tap, six rotating wines, six house cocktails and after a summer series of chef led pop ups, we’ll be launching our in house dive bar menu!”

Don’t be disappointed if they don’t serve amazing fried chicken in Stirchley though - you’ll find Yardbirds Chicken a bit rather up the road which, despite the name, also caters for vegetarians and vegans. Give Dead Beat a follow on Instagram at: Dead Beat Birmingham to find out more.
