Two people were killed and eight were injured in road traffic collisions in Birmingham in the past three months.
Residents have been calling for safer streets in Birmingham for the past few months after several tragic road-related incidents left people shocked and in fear.
Two fatalities within 24 hours - on Sunday (October 15) and Monday (October 16) - have brought back fears over road safety after several deaths and injuries took place on Birmingham’s roads this summer. Tributes were laid out on Tyburn Road, Erdington and Pershore Road, Stirchley after the recent road traffic fatalities.
West Midlands Police have cracked down on dangerous drivers while Birmingham City Council are seeking for public feedback over slashing the 40mph speed limit on 25 main roads in the city to make the region safer.
We took a look at all the road traffic collisions in the past three months - during which fatalities have gone down. Seven deaths, including four cyclists, and four serious injuries had taken place between the beginning of May 2023 and June 19th.
Between July 9 and October 16, there have been two fatalities and eight serious injuries. Here are the locations in and around Birmingham where recent collisions caused deaths and injuries:
1. Pershore Road with junction of Dogpool Lane, Stirchley
A man died on Monday, October 16 following a collision on the Pershore Road in Stirchley, Birmingham, in the early hours of this morning (Monday, October 16). Police said that a Seat Ibiza was involved in a collision with two other vehicles. A woman who was in the Seat was also taken to hospital. A man who was in one of the other vehicles was taken to hospital as a precaution.
2. Tyburn Road, Erdington
After a car hit a tree on Sunday (October 15), one man died and another was seriously injured. Police are appealing for information. (Photo - Google Maps)
3. Selby Close, Yardley
On Friday (October 13), a nab was seriously injured in a hit and run on Selby Close, Yardley. Two people were arrested on Monday (October 16) in connection with the road traffic collision. (Photo - Google Maps)
4. Tollhouse Way, Smethwick
A car and a pedestrian were in collision on Tollhouse Way, near Smethwick Rolfe Street Station on September 21. The pedestrian, aged 45, was taken to hospital and was in a critical condition. (Photo - Google Maps)
