Police will be able to use extra stop and search powers in parts of Birmingham today (29 July) to tackle violent crime.

The force is using Section 60 powers in the Erdington, Stockland Green, and Witton areas. The temporary additional measures allow police to stop and search people in the areas shown in the map between 4pm today and 7am tomorrow. They can also disperse anyone from the area they believe may cause harm or distress to others.

“Our priority is to keep you safe. We’re using these powers to prevent violence involving weapons. We’d like to thank all of the community representatives who we’ve consulted with in recent days on how we use these powers. You will see more officers - both armed and unarmed - on the streets. We’re also using non-uniformed officers in unmarked police cars.

“If you have information about weapons or gangs, get in touch. We can be contacted by Live Chat on our website west-midlands.police.uk. Alternatively, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111. They will not ask for your name or trace your call.”
