James Webb: Birmingham man, 81, dies after Lidl car park collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man who was injured in a collision in Tile Cross has since died.

James Webb, aged 81, came into contact with a car on Lidl car park in Tile Cross at around 10:45am on 2 June.

Mr Webb sustained a broken hip, he underwent surgery, but passed away on 11 June.

The driver of the VW Golf is assisting police with their enquiries.

As part of the police investigation the force are obtaining CCTV from the Lidl Store, but are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage to contact them.

Family tribute

Mr Webb’s family, said: “Jim Webb was 81 and lived at The Glebe for over 50 years. He was very independent and went to Lidl every Thursday morning for his shopping.

“Jim lived alone since his wife developed dementia over five years ago, but he visited her every day (except during Covid). She will not be able to understand that he has died, but she will miss his daily visits.”

Investigating officer DC Tara Atkinson, from the serious collision unit, said: “My thoughts are with Jim’s family at this very distressing time.

“We really need to understand more about exactly what happened so I’d encourage anyone who saw anything to please get in touch.”
