Kings Heath Street Festival 2023: dates and lineup for the brilliant Brummie celebration

It’s time for Kings Heath Streetfest 2023 - with the Birmingham popular community event featuring a spectacular lineup, and it’s very own after party!

It’s the first time in four years that the the renowned festival has been held, and it’s going to be the perfect way to celebrate the end of summer.

The first Kings Heath Festival was held in 2014. It attracts people across the city, in addition to locals who come together to enjoy a host of events across the thriving suburb which boasts a host of creativity, shops, bars and restaurants.

This year the free day of family fun event is taking place on Sunday (September 17) from 12 noon to 6pm. It will feature live music from local artists, a host of street food traders and outdoor bars, an extensive artisan market showcasing local businesses, creators and makers, children’s activities, and much more.

There’s also a free after party at the Hare and Hounds from 6pm to11pm with artists Sam Redmore set to entertain the crowds with African music, funky house and, of course, house!

Kings Heath Street Festival 2023 is hosted by Kings Heath Business Improvement District (BID) who say they are delighted with the lineup for this year’s event.

Here’s the latest information on what’s happening on at Kings Heath Street Festival 2023

York Road - Live music and street art: The Hare and Hounds pub is hosting bands on the main stage from 1pm with DJ Milo providing music in between. There will also be local street artists painting the wall next to The Juke, organised by HiVis, a local CIC celebrating Birmingham talent.

• 2pm to 2.45pm Friendly Fire Band
• 3.15pm to 4pm The Atlantic Players
• 4.30pm to 5.30pm Major Toms

Heathfield Road - Acoustic stage sponsored by Fletchers Bar, fun fair, face painting and community and local business stalls. Kings Heath Food Bank will also bee accepting food and toiletry donations as well as cash. Here’s the line up for live music.

• 12.30pm Layla Tutt - Inspired by Old Grey Whistle tests, Woodstock festivals and Pompeii Amphitheatres, Layla Tutt is a skilful songstress, fashioning tunes to groove to, tunes to move you.
• 1.15pm Jen Bolton - An Eclectic Soul, a multi-talented Singer Songwriter with an impressive vocal range that transcends many musical genres.
• 2pm Harmonica Bob & The Big Boss Man - Local duo playing old time blues.
• 2.45pm The Eggmen - Bringing harmony to the Heath with a melodic mix of classic acoustic pop and timeless ballads from the 60s to the present day.
• 3.30pm Peters Plays Lennon - The creation of Rob Peters, solely performing the music of The Beatles and John Lennon.
• 4.15pm Shy Face Troubadour - A singer songwriter with a love of melody, beautiful chord sequences and artists ranging from Simon and Garfunkel to Radiohead.
• 5pm The Lost Notes (Trio) - Fresh from a superbly received set on the Janice Long stage at Moseley Folk Festival. Ben, Oli and Lucy will be playing an acoustic set. Their music has been described as “a quintessentially English take on country folk, sharing the melodic and commercial sensibilities of Hank Williams with the quirky Brit-pop of the Kinks”.

The Parade - Kings Heath Artisan Market, street food and bar near the community centre. Pip Brady from the Artisan Market said: "Kings Heath Artisan Market will be on The Parade (near the old Kingsway) with Market stalls from amazing artists, makers and food producers as well as a brilliant bar from The Station and Street Food heavy hitters Low & Slow and West Midlands Jerk Centre."

Other events include:

• Silver Street: Funfair rides and stalls between Lidl car park entrance and the modal filter.
• Village Square: Family Fun Day
• Kings Court: Party in the courtyard witht a photo competition and a DJ.
• All Saints: Family fun day with lots of activities to keep the kids entertained.

Road closures for Kings Heath Festival

With a Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) scheme in operation in Kings Heath a number of roads hosting the festivities are closed already, including York Road which has been pedestrianised and Silver Street.

In addition to roads closed due to the LTN, Heathfield Road will be closed to traffic between the high street and Florence Road.

‘The perfect way to end the summer’

Matt Powell the BID manager says: "The BID is delighted to be bringing back Kings Heath Street Fest after a four-year break. Having recently found out that the BID has been endorsed for the next five years, this is a celebration of what the BID has achieved to date and an exciting way to kick off the new BID term. Having already co-organised Queens Heath Pride and Eid in Kings Heath, Street Fest is the perfect way to end the summer in Kings Heath!"
