It’s 70 years since Birmingham Hospital Radio first began broadcasting to patients on wards across the city.

It all began at the back of the New Inns a pub in Moseley in 1952 with the aim of keeping patients at the Yardley Green Sanatorium (now part of Heartlands Hospital) entertained with live football and cricket commentaries.

The pub has since shut but BHBN is still going strong and is celebrating its seventh decade at Herbert’s Yard in Longbridge this evening (Tuesday, August 16).

Entry is free and there’s live music - you can see the line up below - and you can meet the presenters. And with this event being a Digbeth Dining Club venue there will be plenty of delicious street food to treat yourself to as well - Middle Easter favourites from Cleopatra’s Kitchen and mouthwatering desserts from Urban Cheesecake will be on offer.
