West Midlands Police officers have reported that a man has been charged over a shooting in Alum Rock Birmingham.

The incident happened shortly after midnight on June 27 with a man being shot in the chest. His injuries were not life-threatening and he is currently continuing his recovery. Police said that Aman Baig, aged 21, was arrested on Friday (July 7) and subsequently remanded into custody while charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. Baig appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court for a first hearing on Saturday.

Allahdittah Munir-Humza, aged 21, previously appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court in connection with the incident on July 6 charged with attempted murder, possessing an offensive weapon with intention to endanger life and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place. He was remanded into custody. A third man, an 18-year-old, has been released on bail while police enquiries continue.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We have increased patrols in the area to offer reassurance as our investigations continue. We understand the shock and concern in the community. “Operation Target sees West Midlands Police taking a defiant stand against a range of serious and organised crime offences – from drug dealing and burglary to cyber crime and fraud.

“Officers will be using local intelligence, seizing goods, carrying out warrants and targeting offenders as part of Op Target’s ongoing crackdown against serious and organised crime.”
