The increase in demand and lack of staff at Birmingham Airport has caused travel chaos for many, with long queues and waiting times, with some passengers even missing their flights in recent weeks.

Following the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend, the issue seemed to ease off, but travellers have once again been hit by travel chaos this morning.

Andy Pullar’s wife was one of those stuck in the queues outside the terminal on Tuesday,

Andy said she waited an hour and a half in the queue before being called forward so she didn’t miss her flight to Belfast.

He said: “Staff called some passengers forward whose flights were within 30 minutes. My wife received an email last night saying to allow two hours to get through security.”

Andy said his wife described the situation on Tuesday as “Chaotic” with “queues everywhere’.”

What have other passengers said?

Another holidaymaker said on Twitter that there was “little organisation” with the police “performing airport staff duties” on Tuesday (21 June).

What has Birmingham Airport said?

A statement from the airport, read: “Almost half of the 16,700 customers booked to depart BHX today (Monday, June 21) were airborne before 0900 after going through our pre-flight security screening.

“A big ‘thank you’ to customers who present compliant baggage at our x-ray scanners - with all liquids, gels, pastes and electrical items removed. That helps keep everyone moving. And it helps our security officers keep everyone safe.”
