Inside the Jewellery Quarter ruin transformed into a stunning home which has scooped two awards

Luxury construction company Vantage & Co in Solihull has transformed this Jewellery Quarter historic gem which had become a ruin

It is just one of two Georgian villas remaining in the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham.

The area was once renowned for its wealth of 18th and 19th century townhouses, and Old Heaton House of Camden Street originally constructed as a private residence for leading Birmingham merchant William Cotterill in 1823.

But it was left to wrack and ruin after it was turned into industrial and commercial premises and left vacant since 2005. Now the property has been restored to its former glory by luxury construction company Vantage & Co in Solihull and their partners Elevate Property Group.

The hipped slate roof was entirely rebuilt - with its beautiful brickwork reconstructed with detailed cornices and moulded architraves. While the interior of the property was transformed into a luxurious living space. The double-fronted, five-bedroom house stretches across almost 3,500 square feet. Its centrepiece is its elegant staircase, hand-carved from Bath stone by Vantage & Co’s master craftsmen.

The company scooped two top industry awards for the transformation at the Federation of Master Builders’ (FMB) 2023 Central Master Builder Awards.

The awards recognise excellence in the region’s small and medium-sized construction companies and are run by the FMB, the largest trade association in the UK construction sector. Vantage & Co. won the Large Renovation Projectand Bathroom Project

Judges said the project as a whole was “absolutely outstanding” and “executed with great sympathy and attention to detail.” They reserved special praise for the bathroom, calling it “everything a bathroom should be”. One judge remarked that it “proved a quality building company will go over and above to achieve an amazing result on a period project.”

Stephen Rankin, Director of Vantage & Co Group said:“We are incredibly proud and humbled to have won these awards, and it means so much to have the efforts of the whole team recognised by the FMB.”

“We have to say a huge thank you to our client Elevate Property Group for the opportunity, and to all of the professionals and tradespeople who made the vision a reality.”

Let’s take a look at the transformation:
