An exciting new addition has opened in Stirchley - the Birmingham suburb bursting with independent hospitality talent, so much so that’s declared itself to be the Independent Republic of Stirchley.

The latest trader to hit the high street is Birmingham drinks company BeauFort Spirits who have become experts in smoked gin and rum - and the results are astounding.

The company is the brainchild of Brummie entrepreneur and musician Leo Crabtree whose previous ventures included a moustache wax called BeauFort London.

And his unique take on gin and rum has become quite the talking point in certain Brummie circles - it’s being served up in some of the best cocktails in the city at the Beaufort Spirits takeover at Kong - the latest Stirchley bar (opposite Larry’s pizza) with the eye-catching frontage featuring Kong Kong’s very own face - for one month only, so you’ll have to be quick to try there. By the way, Kong is run by the team at Stir Stores, so it’s definitely worth a visit.

What is so special about BeauFort Spirits?

Distilled in the Black Country, BeauFort Overproof smoked Gin is an acclaimed contemporary Gin with ‘bold, smoky savoury notes and richly textured flavours of grainy cereals, cream soda, brown sugar and ginger spice’.

The brand’s Three Tides Smoked Botanical Rum is a ‘highly aromatic and characterful spiced rum’, intended to be ‘sipped over ice, mixed in contemporary cocktails or used in classic rum and mixer combinations, bringing deep smoky complexity’.

Larry’s pizza is highly recommended and there’s Alicia’s Bakehouse down the road too. In fact the place is simply buzzing with original places to eat and drink.

It’s being heralded as a new Moseley for its cosmopolitan style and individuality. Even the gorilla on top of JJ’s Flooring Services has got into the Christmas spirit, proudly sporting a santa hat!
