Birmingham road closures: eight for motorists to avoid this week

Birmingham's motorists will have eight road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And four of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing waits of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that three closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• A38, from 9pm October 25 to 6am November 12, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions M6 jct eight to the M5 jct 5, Lane closures switching for maintenance repairs.

• M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2022, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

• A5, from 9pm December 8 2021 to 5.30am September 30 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A5 westbound, hints bypass between the A453 and A38 junctions, (tamworth to lichfield), temporary speed, lane closures with switching and narrow lanes running for general construction works.

And a further five closures will begin over the next seven days:

• M6, from 9pm October 31 to 6am November 3, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, jct eight to jct 7, M5 Eastern Arm northbound to M6 southbound and jct seven southbound, exit slip road, lane and slip road closures for inspection/survey works.

• A446, from 11pm October 31 to 6am November 5, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 5 to jc six and A38M out of city to M6 northbound, slip road, lane and slip road closures for inspection/survey works.

• M6, from 9pm November 7 to 6am November 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 7 to junction 6, Lane closures for inspection/survey.

• M6, from 9pm November 12 to 6am November 14, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, jct seven, closure of entry slip road for survey works.

• A446, from 9pm November 14 to 6am November 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, jct five to jct six and A38M out of city to M6 northbound, slip road, lane and slip road closures for inspection/survey works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
