Driving in Birmingham isn’t always the easiest task. The city council is eager to promote the use of public transport, often leaving motorists feeling penalised. I’m here today on the streets of Birmingham to find out from Brummies the worst roads for driving here in the city.

Sharon says: “Wow, goodness me, I think that there’s been a lot of traffic increase in Birmingham. I think one of the worst roads probably around for me personally - the Colmore Row area, if I am coming into Birmingham, only because I think that the road works have been there for some time.

“And if you’re trying to get into Birmingham, there’s a lot of confusion with that kind of area. I think Broad Street, Hagley Road - that’s the kind of areas that I go. I think they’ve been working on those roads for quite a long time.

“With regards to the tram, and I don’t quite know what’s happening with that, really, I think really what needs to happen is if they’re up, they are putting the tram in, they need to get that done as soon as possible to ease some of the congestion with people that are driving in those areas. So they’ve got the chance to access those areas really,”

Mike says: “Driving around the outskirts of Birmingham is dead easy. The motorway system - M40 to M65 are brilliant. So you can get past Birmingham quite easily. Driving into Birmingham city centre. I’ve only done it once and that was a few years ago and had no real problems.. So to say there’s a worse road? No, I would say there are good roads.”

Ben says: “As a cyclist - well actually I do drive occasionally - but I’d regard myself primarily as a cyclist. And it feels like as long as I’ve been cycling in Birmingham, which is about 25 years, something like that. I’ve seen it get better, but it’s still a terrifying experience to set out into a busy road.

“I’d still think that it’s that it’s the heritage of Motor City, isn’t it? I think it’s going to take a long time for that to disappear. Which is the worst road? I think Moor Street. There’s a very busy crossing there where you have to turn your head around 270 degrees to look Left and Right.

“And I’ve noticed people don’t and that’s a bit of a planning oversight to have a busy crossing with such a kind of owl-head like experience just to see safety across”
