A woman and her dog from Birmingham share an extra special bond and are taking their relationship further by being in the running to be crowned UK and Ireland’s biggest lookalikes.
Jade McKenna and her dog Gizmo - pug-Jack Russell cross - from Birmingham were shortlisted for the Doggy Doppelgangers award launched by pet food brand, Naturo. The award was launched after several studies found that dogs look like their owners. Researchers from different countries have conducted independent surveys to find out that pet-owners tend to pick pooches that look like them for various reason.

Jade commented on being shortlisted: “It’s amazing that people think we look similar, I first realised it when we were taking selfies together.”

When asked about their relationship, she said: “Gizmo is my world, he means everything to me. Everyone always comments on our bond together, my colleagues say they’ve never seen a pet love them as much as Gizmo does me. I like to let him be the lovely soul that he is, but sometimes the odd matching accessory may come out when we go on trips!”
Jade added: “If we were a duo we would be like Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story because we’ve always got a friend in each other.”
Eva Strain, marketing manager at Naturo commented: “With the last few years seeing pet ownership rise significantly, we wanted to find the owners who have a bigger bond with their furry friend than just friendship, whether it’s through their eyes, hair or any other similar feature. The resemblance between Jade and Gizmo is uncanny and we wish them the best of luck in the final stage of the competition.” You can help them win by voting for the winner of the competition until 11:59pm on August 14, 2023 on Naturo’s Facebook Page.
