Storm Babet: Birmingham hour-by-hour Met Office weather forecast

Yellow and amber rain warnings have been issued by the Met Office for the West Midlands, including Birmingham.

Persistent heavy rain is expected in the region and that brings the likelihood of some flooding and disruption. Rain and flooding has caused travel disruption in Birmingham with trains and buses being delayed. People have been asked to plan ahead for travel and were advised to take extra care during journeys.

The Met office advice said: “Homes and businesses are likely to be flooded, causing damage to some buildings, fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing danger to life, a possibility that some communities will be cut off by flooded roads.

“Delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely, spray and flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures and power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses possible.”

West Midlands Fire Service said: “Avoid flood water! Road users: please don’t risk it. You might think it’s safe, you might think you know the road, but water can be deeper and moving faster than it appears. Concerned about flooding near your home? Call Floodline on 0345 988 1188.”
