Birmingham was hit by heavy thunderstorms last night - and the forecast isn’t much better for today (Sunday, July 9) as the Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning.

Mostly Soul, Jazz and Funk Festival was evacuated and flash flooding was reported across the city as people were hit by huge downpours of rain amid thunder and lightning on Saturday evening. Parts of Sutton Coldfield, Kings Norton and Kings Heath were also affected by water reaching high levels.

The weather may have started fine today, but the sunny spells are short lived amid hazy conditions. Scattered showers are expected to break out in the afternoon - potentially turning heavy and thundery at times, according to the Met Office.

On a brighter note, the climate is not expected to feel quite as muggy as it was yesterday - the maximum temperature is expected to reach 24 degrees celsius.

What about the weather tonight?

The conditions are expected to clear up tonight though - with the Met Office saying: “Any daytime showers will ease away into the evening leaving plenty of clear spells overnight. Light winds and feeling cool under the clear skies. Minimum temperature 12 °C.”

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday

The Met Office says: “Further showers, these potentially heavy with a risk of hail and thunder. Some sunny spells in between showers. Turning rather breezy at times too with temperatures around the seasonal average.”
