Birmingham Victoria Square 'mistaken identity' stabbing victim named by police as murder probe continues

The teenage boy who died after being stabbed in Victoria Square in Birmingham has been named by police who say the case is not gang-related.
Officers believe Muhammad Hassam Ali was murdered in broad daylight around 3.30pm on Saturday, January 20 in ‘a tragic case of mistaken identity’.

Hide AdMuhammad's family has released a photo of their beloved son as police appeal for witnesses to come forward - especially anyone who was around The River statue (also known as the Floozie in the Jacuzzi) by the Council House at the time.
Police are supporting the family as officers also review CCTV. Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, from West Midland Police homicide team, said: "This is a tragic case of a young man being killed in what appears to be a case of mistaken identity
"We are still trying to establish the motive and are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area. We are especially looking for any photos or video footage from the surrounding area which may help us identify those responsible.
"If you were walking through the area at the time, or a visitor who may have been taking pictures by The River statue near the Council House, we would like to hear from you as you may have vital information or evidence."
