As soon as you step inside the door of of Stirchley Wines & Spirits you are greeted by an impressive selection of global beers, ciders, wines, and spirits, alongside a selection of local favourites crafted right here in Birmingham - it’s clearly what sets them apart from their competition. 

The high street shop is in the same neighbourhood as the award-winning Birmingham Brewing Company and Attic Brew Co and Glasshouse - so it's not short of options on quality drinks to stock. It's no secret that the local food and drink scene has spiralled in recent years, attacting some of the most creative businesses in Birmingham to become the Independent Republic of Stirchley, no less!

But it's not just local beers that you can buy here - you can, literally, travel around the world with the fascinating collection of drinks spanning Belgium, France, Italy, Japan and more. We even discovered a bottle of poteen on a recent visit - a once outlawed Irish beverage.

The shop has been providing a top quality service since 1979, so I guess they've had plenty of practice! There's always someone on hand to talk you through the latest selection available to buy, whatever the occasion.

The business is run by father and son Amrik and Rajput who have just been shortlisted for yet another two awards. This time it's the 2024 Drinks Retailing Awards. The first nomination is for Independent Beer & Cider Retailer of the Year and the second is for Independent drinks Retailer of the Year.

Krishnan explained how these awards are a big deal for the UK’s drinks retail scene, saying: “The fact that Stirchley Wines & Spirits has secured these nominations speaks volumes about our unwavering dedication to providing customers with top-tier beverages and outstanding service.”

Amrik and Krishan, are over the moon about their latest award nominations. Amrik said: "We're immensely proud of our team's hard work and dedication. Being nominated for not one, but two categories at a nationally recognised level, is a true honour and evidence of our business's unwavering passion and commitment."

And they are both delighted with the way Stirchley has transformed with so many food and drink businesses springing up in the area over the last decade. Krishnan told BirminghamWorld: “It's amazing to see how Stirchley has come along over the last decade or so, with new and vibrant independent businesses setting up, including places to eat and drink.

“Also having three breweries on our doorstep is something that we could only dream about. We look forward to our bit of Birmingham coming on in leaps and bounds. 

“We have been in business on Stirchley high street since 1979, we're 45 next year! And we’re looking forward to the future for Stirchley Wines to continue to give the best choice we can to our customers, new and old, and to carry on being awesome!”

Stirchley Wines & Spirits has already earned recognition in the industry, winning the  title of Best Drinks Merchant / Tasting House of the Year at the Midlands Food Drink  & Hospitality Awards in 2022.

They were also finalists for the Drinks Retailing Awards back in 2014 and 2019,  specifically in the Independent Beer Retailer of the Year category. This consistency in maintaining high standards shows their dedication to offering the best selection of  beers and ciders and we wish them the best of luck for the upcoming 2024 Drinks Retailing Awards.
