Birmingham singer celebrates her 109th birthday - and reveals her tasty secret for a long life

Winifred Parker is 109 years old and she’s got a special breakfast treat that she enjoys every day

She was a singer renowned for her “brilliant” singing as a youngster on the Birmingham club scene.

Now Winifred Parker has celebrated her 109th birthday with music and surrounded by her family. But these treasures may not be the whole reason behind Winifred’s long life. The birthday girl still has a bacon sandwich every day for breakfast!

She had a party with a saxophonist playing her favourite song ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’ alongside balloons and cake on Thursday (September 29) at a care home in Woodstock, Oxfordshire. She has an impressive ten great-great grandchildren - the oldest of which is 18 - and another on the way in March.

Sally Connolly, the activities coordinator at Winnies Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) homes said: "She just takes it in her stride, she puts her pearls on every day and gets dressed up. Winnie just loves life. She lies in till about 9.30am and then has a bacon sandwich every morning with a cup of tea.”

Winnie is the oldest resident at OSJCT, a charity which runs 60 care homes across the UK. Great-granddaughter, Kelly White, said: "It’s priceless for the youngest children to have a great-great-grandparent. We all have so many wonderful memories of growing up with Winnie.”
