There’s still time to apply for primary school places in Birmingham- but not much of it

The new year is almost well and truly here, and Birmingham parents and guardians will be counting down the days for their children’s next educational step. This for many will be starting primary school, the deadline to apply is coming up fast.

Secondary school applications in Birmingham should already be in by now as the deadline has since passed. Applications were due late last year.

However, Birmingham children moving into primary school later this year who are yet to apply for a place still have the chance to do so. The closing date for applicants is this month.

Guardians have had the last few months to get together applications for their children’s chosen primary school spot. With the days ticking down to the all important deadline, here’s what you need to know.

How to apply for a primary school place in Birmingham

Birmingham City Council provides all the information you need on how to apply for schools through them. All of the information needed to apply for primary school places is available through the Birmingham City Council website. You can choose up to three schools as a preference for your child.

The council encourages you to provide full, accurate reasons for your preferences. Any supporting documentation can be attached and updated through the online application.

When is the deadline for 2023 primary school places?

If you are looking to apply for primary school places for the school year beginning September 2023, the deadline is coming up fast. The cut off for applications is Sunday January 15 at 11.59pm.

The wait to find out which of your preferred schools have offered places to your child can be long and anxious. However, you can mark it in your diary as April 17.
