Birmingham City Council was called out to deal with the third highest number of rodent infestations in the UK last year, new figures show.
The British Pest Control Association said pest management is vital to maintaining people’s health and wellbeing, but the high cost of services often leads to ineffective DIY methods.
Freedom of information requests by Direct Line Home Insurance show Birmingham City Council tackled 12,736 rodent infestations in 2022 – meaning the local authority dealt with the third highest number of pest problems in the UK.
Despite this, it was down from 14,464 the year before and a decrease from 13,589 infestations recorded in 2020.
Rodents are primarily rats and mice when it comes to pest control call outs, but can also be squirrels and hamsters.
