Man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after Great Hampton Street crash

A woman has died after a crash on Great Hampton Street in the Hockley area of Birmingham. A man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after that.

The incident took place around 11.25pm on Wednesday (August 2) evening. West Midlands Ambulance Service received multiple calls and dispatched two ambulances, three paramedic managers and the MERIT Trauma Doctor and Critical Care Paramedic to the scene.

When they reached the scene, they found that occupants of the two cars - an Audi A5 and a Nissan Qashqai - that crashed were injured. The passenger of the Nissan Qashqai, a woman, had serious and fatal injuries. Despite their best efforts, she could not be saved.

The driver of the Nissan was treated for minor injuries and the driver and passenger of the Audi were both taken to hospital for further treatment.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, ambulance staff found patients in two cars that had both suffered significant damage.

“Unfortunately, a woman in the first car had suffered very serious injuries and despite receiving advanced clinical care, it was not possible to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene.

“A man from the same car had suffered multiple injuries. He was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to Sandwell Hospital. There were two men in the second car. They had both suffered non-serious injuries. After being assessed and treated at the scene, they too were taken to Sandwell hospital for further assessment.”

West Midlands Police have launched and investigation in which an Audi A5 and a Nissan Qashqai collided. The driver of the Audi has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
