Birmingham road closures: the motorists warned of a dozen road closure hot-spots

Drivers urged to be aware of disruption

Birmingham’s motorists will have 12 road closures to avoid on the National Highways network this week.

Five of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing waits of between ten and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows seven closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M6, from 10pm to 6am until March 11, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 - A38M northbound and southbound, lane closure and carriageway closure for structural repairs.

• M6, from 9.30pm to 5.30am until March 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 6, lane closures for safety critical inspections.

• A38(M), from 9pm to 6am until March 31, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A38M, junction 6 M6, link road closures with speed restrictions for structural repairs.

• M6, from 9pm to 6am until April 4, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 6 to A38M into City AC and BC link roads, carriageway closure for installation of 24/7 hard shoulder closure for structure works.

• M42, from 9pm to 6am until May 1, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 10a to junction 4a, hard shoulder and lane closure with link road closures for access to the emergency refuge bays to upgrade signage.

• M6, from 9pm to 6am until December 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24-hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

• A5, from 9pm to 5.30am until September 30, 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A5 westbound, hints bypass between the A453 and A38 junctions, (Tamworth to Lichfield), temporary speed limit and lane closure with switching for general construction works.

A further five closures will begin over the next seven days:

• M6, from 9pm February 17 to 6am February 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 from, junction 4 to junction 3a southbound, lane closures for emergency resurfacing works.

• M6, from 10pm February 19 to 6am March 28, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6, junction 6 to 7 northbound and southbound and A38M city to junction 6, carriageway closure and associated slip roads of M6 and lane closure on A38M out of city for structural repairs.

• M5, from 9pm February 21 to 6am February 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, M6, junction 8 to M5, junction 1, lane closure for communications.

• A38, from 9pm February 24 to 6am February 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A38 clockwise A38 Langley Mill Island - lane two closure on island to A38 Langley Mill island - electrical works.

• M6, from 9pm February 25 to 6am February 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 5 to 4A and junction 5 southbound, entry slip road, lane closures for electrical works on behalf of Kier.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in its schedule.
