Food hygiene ratings report on the standards of food hygiene found during inspections by local authority officials.
The scheme gives businesses a rating from 5 to 0 which is displayed at premises and online so customers can make more informed choices about where to buy and eat food.
A 5-star rating means hygiene standards are very good, while 0 means urgent improvement is required.
Venues are marked on a number of factors, including the handling of food, how food is stored, how food is prepared, cleanliness of facilities and how food safety is managed.
Here are five restaurants and takeaways in Birmingham which have recently been handed 0 out of 5 food hygiene ratings.
1. Slemani Restaurant, Erdington high street
Slemani Restaurant, a restaurant, cafe or canteen at 262 High Street, Erdington, Birmingham was given the minimum score after assessment on May 12, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.
2. Tangs Garden, Sutton Coldfield
Tangs Garden at 93 Chester Road, Sutton Vesey was given a 0 rating on May 10
3. Big Saj, Sparkhill

Yum Yum Pizza at 2266 Coventry Road, Sheldon was given the rating on April 19
