After being out and about in Birmingham city centre for a couple of hours on a chilly November afternoon, I fancied a quick pint in a cosy nearby pub that was embracing the festive spirit.

On a wet and windy weekday afternoon, The Old Joint Stock on Temple Row was the perfect place to be. I'd never actually been to the pub before but it's garnered a reputation for being one of the city's most beautiful venues.

As I entered, I was immediately took-back by the impressive Victorian façade and interior. The pub also has its own small back terrace and its own studio theatre for events. The decor is flamboyant yet cosy, helped by the large Christmas tree that is now on display near the front door.

I entered the pub at around 4pm on Monday afternoon (November 20), and groups of friends started to appear shortly after to enjoy after-work drinks. I ordered a pint of Old Joint Stock stout, which set me back £5 and took a seat near the front door and had a browse of the menu and admired my surroundings.

The Grade II listed building opposite Birmingham Cathedral is bedecked with chandeliers hanging from an eye-catching pink and gilt ceiling. It also features illuminated busts which line the top of the ornately plastered walls. The building was previously home to St Phillip's church private Library before becoming the Lloyds Stock Exchange.

There are are also large seating booths for groups to sit in and enjoy.

There are also a range of options to choose from if you fancy a bite to eat. The Joint Stock is known for its delightful ale and pie. A steak and ale will cost you £17, with a chicken bacon and leak costing £15.95. A warming fishermans pie is £18.95. Elsewhere fish and chips, venison casserole and well as sausage and pie and mash are all on the menu.

There are also numerous red and white wine options, including shiraz and merlot as well as classic cider and beer options to choose from including Peroni and Blue Moon. The pub is also the UK's highest seller of London Pride.

The Old Joint Stock is a pub for all seasons, but is particularly enjoyable in the winter. The pub hosts a range of different events and shows in its theatre. The pub has also joined forces with Big Deal Comedy, the stand-up comedy club known for their sell varied line ups.

They are holding comedy nights in November and December. The theatre is also hosting cabaret superstar Fatt Butcher for an evening of cabaret fun on November 30 and December 1.

So there's plenty going on at the pub. But even if you just fancy a relaxing pint on a chilly winter's evening like I did, the Old Joint Stock is a great option.
