It’s a Brummie institution - one of Birmingham's most iconic pubs and live music venues renowned for its canalside location in the city centre.

But The Flapper on Cambrian Wharf has been living in the shadow of the bulldozers since it reopened in 2021 after closing a year earlier while earmarked for devleopment into flats. But the family who previously bought the venue now own the entire site - which means it’s protected from the bulldozers now, and in the future - and they’re planning a huge all day party to celebrate.

Owner Sam, who took over the pub back in July 2021, says the all dayer is to celebrate The Flapper in all her glory. “It’s been a long road to ensure the pub’s future but we’re thrilled to say she’s finally safe. It’s been a rollercoaster to get here and we’re delighted to be hosting a party to let the city know this renowned music venue and Brummie institution isn’t going anywhere.

“The resurrection and safeguarding of The Flapper is so important for independent bars and grass-root music venues in Birmingham, as it shows that not all sites earmarked for closure or demolition actually go ahead.

“I love the venue; she means everything to me. Now she’s safe I’m making sure she never faces any threat ever again. We’re so happy we can invite our customers to celebrate her future with us.”

Sam added: “Whether you love your punk, metal, rock, pop-punk or folk, we’ll have something for you on the day. This is a true celebration of grass roots music in Brum.”
