The sign read: ‘Saint Thomas Aquinas Children have been banned’. There was no reason given as to why the students were banned from the store. And the shop did not specify whether pupils were banned just while they were wearing their uniforms - or how they would be identified if they weren’t.

People living in and around Cotteridge were shocked by the notice. One said that they had offered to speak with the school about the ban. While others questioned by it could have been imposed by the shop. Locals say the sign has been on the shop front for weeks.

When BirminghamWorld contacted Poundstretcher the store said that the sign was being taken down.

A spokesperson for Poundstretcher said: “Thank you for getting in touch. We certainly do not tolerate any message as such that may disappoint our shoppers within the local area and the Poster has now been removed.”

BirminghamWorld contacted St Thomas Aquinas School for a coment but they did not reply.
