Here are the 15 neighbourhoods in the city with the lowest estimated average annual household income

We’ve compiled a list of the Birmingham neighbourhoods with the lowest estimated average annual household income, based on the latest figures published by the Office for National Statistics.

The total annual household income is the sum of the gross income of every member of the household plus any income from benefits such as Working Families Tax Credit.

According to the data, the average household income for Birmingham is £39,573 which is below the England-wide average of £43,960.

The list we have compiled uses figures for so-called Middle Layer Super Output Areas (MSOA) within Birmingham and the West Midlands. The estimates were calculated using regional figures from the Family Resources Survey and modelling down to neighbourhood level based on characteristics of the neighbourhood obtained from census and administrative statistics.

More than 300,000 Brummies are currently living in poverty - with many more are at risk of falling into extreme need due to lack of finances, and some areas of the city have been hit hard by the cost of living crisis.

And six constituencies in Birmingham are among the top 13 most affected by fuel poverty in the country - with Hodge Hill ranking as the highest in England.

With this is mind, we’ve analysed the ONS data to find out which are the city’s poorest neighbourhoods.
