Road closed in Ladywood, Birmingham, as police investigate incident on Hagley Road

A street was cordoned off by the police this morning (June 21) after an incident on Hagley Road in Ladywood, Birmingham. Access from Hagley Road to Monument Road is closed off. It is believed an injured person was found outside a 24/7 shop.

A police forensic tent has been set up near Monument Road - where police officers are at the scene. West Midlands Roads tweeted this morning (June 21): “A456 Hagley Road Birmingham - Heavier than usual traffic heading into city. Due to a closure of Monument Road.”

West Midlands Ambulance said: “We were called to an incident on Hagley Road in Edgbaston just before 2.30am. An ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a male patient with serious injuries. Ambulance staff provided medical treatment at the scene before conveying him to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.”

Some shops and restaurants on Hagley Road and Monument Road are currently closed. West Midlands Police told BirminghamWorld that they will open once the investigation is complete.

People working at businesses on Hagley Road spoke to us about the incident this morning (June 21).

An employee at Cafe Rumi, Evav, said: “I have been working here only 10 days and this morning, I was walking over to the shop and saw the police cordon.”

Another person who wanted to remain unnamed said: “This was bound to happen. Somebody smashed my shop window recently and other shops too. I told the police and showed them a CCTV photo. They didn’t take action saying the face is not clear. The system doesn’t work.”
