Two houses on fire in Perry Barr, Birmingham - firefighters urge people to avoid the area

Around 40 firefighters from West Midlands Fire Service were in attendance at two houses on fire in Perry Barr overnight (Thursday, June 15)

Firefighters dealt with a residential fire in Perry Barr, Birmingham overnight (Thursday, June 15).

Around 40 firefighters from West Midlands Fire Service were in attendance from 3.52am as two houses went on fire on Cliveden Avenue. People have been asked to avoid the area while investigators work to establish how it started. Cliveden Ave is closed from A34 to Teddington Grove.

West Midlands Fire Service said eleven people, including three children, managed to get themselves to safety. One woman was checked over at the scene by paramedics.

WMFS added: “We responded at 3.52am on Thursday (15 June) to Cliveden Avenue. The first of seven fire crews arrived within two minutes of being mobilised. An aerial platform was also sent to the scene.

“This was a severe fire in a semi-detached house, which spread to the roof space/loft conversion of the adjoining property on Walsall Road. The fire was extinguished using hose reels and two main jets, and the operation involved around a dozen firefighters in breathing apparatus entering the properties.”

This is not the only fire-related incident in Birmingham today (June 15) as around 50 firefighters arecurdealing with a fire in Kitts Green.

The two incidents follow a huge incident yesterday in Aston where a water pipe burst and firefighters had to rescue three people stranded in cars as Aston Hall Road near Lichfield Road flooded.
