It’s not difficult to see why thousands of tourists flock to Birmingham each year and we’re more than happy to welcome them, but sometimes they have a difficult time understanding our city.
There’s plenty going on in Birmingham for tourists - from visiting the German Christmas Market to tucking into a balti - but it’s important to get a full Brummie experience if you take the trouble to come to the city.
We’re renowned for our welcoming nature and modesty, but you don’t want to get caught out doing the wrong thing, do you?
Take a look at our list to help you make the most of a visit it Brum:

5. Wondering why the city's key park is named after pigeons and is spelt 'pidgeon'
The only pigeon you'll probably spot here during Christmas is the Pigeon in the Park Pub with the festive market on. But there's usually loads of birds, so the green land surrounding St Philips Cathedral has been named after them by us Brummies. You may also be surprised to learn that it's actually a graveyard with Birmingham's smallet woman buried there - 3ft 3ins Nanette Stocker who was a music hall star at the beginning of the 1800s. We don't know why it's spelled Pidgeon either! | Comore BID

6. Taking too many taxis
There's loads of public transport in Birmingham. We've got buses, trains and trams - so there's no need to fork out on an Uber all the time. Please note, buses are known as buzzes in Brum! | Transport for West Midlands

7. Thinking we can't spell
It's a quirk of Birmingham that the names of two of our key landmarks are two words joined together. Rest assured. we haven't made a mistake in the signage, the shopping centre really is called the Bullring and there are lots bars and restaurants next to the canals around Brindleyplace. | Adobe

8. Not being able to find The Ramp
The Ramp is a popular meeting spot in town (aka city centre) but you won't find it on a map. It's home to one of Brum's busiest McDonald's and it's the elevated pathway from New Street up to Grand Central Shopping Centre, officially called Stephenson Place | Flickr
