‘I won the £50,000 jackpot at Bingo in Birmingham after playing for 40 years - and I’m still in shock’

She’s been playing bingo in Birmingham for 40 years - and got the shock of her life when she called house recently.

Susan, aged 67, initially thought she had won £1,000 and was surprised at the commotion around her. Her husband tried to let her know that her win at Mecca Bingo in Kingstanding was actually much bigger, but she didn’t believe him at first.

But he was right - Susan had scooped the jackpot prize while playing the National Bingo Game on February 2 at the club on Kettlehouse Road where she plays every week.

The mum-of-five had triggered the jackpot on top of the local full house prize because she had marked off all the numbers on her ticket within the first 16 numbers being called. It wasn’t until Sue Edwards, the club’s duty manager, personally approached her to check her ticket and confirm the win, that Susan had realised the magnitude of her victory. 

Susan comments, ‘’When I’m playing bingo, I don’t really pay attention to how much money is up for grabs. I just love playing!’ I called House and thought that everyone was making a very big fuss for a £1,000 win. I was playing with my husband who turned to me and said, ‘You’ve won the biggen’!’ but I didn’t believe him and I am still in complete shock!  Even when looking at the money in my bank account, I can’t quite believe it’s there so I haven’t really thought about what to spend it on. I might treat myself to a new car!’’ 

Sue Edwards, duty manager at Mecca Bingo Kingstanding, comments, ‘’We’re always thrilled for our winners but the £50k National Bingo Game jackpot is a real cause for celebration, especially when it’s a regular player! Susan was in complete shock when I told her. The atmosphere in the venue was electric and everyone was just so pleased for her.’’
