We have taken a look at the latest internal migration data from the Office for National Stastics and London is the top spot for those moving out of Birmingham.

Several thousands of people have left the second largest city outside of London for the capital, but the reason behind their departure is not known.

While Birmingham is a vibrant and diverse destination that became known as an international sports destination in 2022 and several of its neighbourhoods are named among the best places to live in England, career goals can be one of the primary reasons for people departing.

Just like any big city, people moving in, around and out of Birmingham is expected. Previously, we took a look at the top cities Brummies left Birmingham for, and London and its boroughs came out on top.

The data for the period of mid-2021 to mid-2022 shows that 75,125 people left Birmingham to move to different locations across England in those 12 months. Meanwhile 59,091 people moved to Birmingham from towns and cities across England in the same time period. Among those moving out, 8,849 people from Birmingham left for London and its boroughs.
