Birmingham has welcomed thousands of people, including from London, but many residents have also bid farewell to the city.
With a well-connected public transportation network, people are able to able to live further away from Birmingham and still work here. Or, they have moved away completely by uprooting themselves from the city for various reasons.
So, we took a look at the towns and cities where Brummies are moving to. The latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed the estimated number of people who left Birmingham.
While 59,469 people moved out of Birmingham in the year ending June 2020, the data also shows that 46,113 people have moved to Birmingham from elsewhere in the UK during that time.
Despite the greater number of outgoing than incoming residents, Birmingham City Council projections estimate that the population of Birmingham will grow from 1,141,400 in 2018 to 1,186,000 (3.9%) in 2028 and to 1,230,000 (7.8%) by 2038. The number of households is projected to increase from 422,500 in 2018 to 442,500 in 2028, an increase of 4.7%.
So, which is the most favoured city or town Brummies move to? Unsurprisingly, it is somewhere close to Birmingham. Here are the top 10 destinations where Brummies are moving to:
