Man stabbed to death on King’s Heath High Street in Birmingham - police statement

Police were called to King’s Heath High Street, near the junction with Queensbridge Road, in Birmingham this morning (Wednesday, April 26)

West Midlands Police launched a murder investigation after a man was found fatally stabbed in King’s Heath.

Police were called to King’s Heath High Street, near the junction with Queensbridge Road, today (April 26) morning. They were called just before 2.25am after a man suffered serious injuries. Despite the best efforts of emergency services he was confirmed dead at the scene.

A cordon is currently in place while police teams carry out investigations into why this happened and who was responsible and road closures are in place - full details and latest travel advice is below.

West Midlands Police said: “A murder investigation is under way after a man was fatally stabbed in Kings Heath this morning. We were called to High Street, near the junction with Queensbridge Road, just before 2.25am after a man suffered serious injuries.

“Despite the best efforts of emergency services he was confirmed dead at the scene. A cordon is currently in place while we carry out investigations into why this happened and who was responsible. We thank everyone for their patience while we do so.”

With police cordons in place, the high street has been closed and diversions are in place for motorists. Several bus services have been affected and commuters have been asked to take alternative routes.

The road is closed between Queensbridge Road and Valentine Road, according to West Midlands Roads. WMR has advised people to consider taking alternative routes and allow extra time to travel.

Diamond buses have said the Birmingham 50 service will be on diversion via Addision Road, Brook Lane, Yardley Wood road and Wake green road and heavy congestion is expected.

National Express West Midlands said that due to the ongoing closure of Kings Heath High Street they are seeing delays to services in the area. This includes the 11A/C 35 50 & 76. They added: “Please allow more time if traveling in this area this morning.”

NXWM Services 35 & 50 are diverting both directions via Alcester Road, Addison Road, Brook Lane, Yardley Wood Road, Wake Green Road.
