An address in Birmingham is due to be searched after the arrests of two men for a terrorism offence

Two men from Birmingham have been arrested for a terrorism offence yesterday (Thursday, 16 February) at Heathrow Airport.

The men, aged 30 and 66, were detained at the airport under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The pair were scheduled to board a plane out of the UK. An address in Birmingham is due to be searched following their arrests.

They have been arrested under section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006 on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of terrorism. They were transported to a police station in the West Midlands to be questioned.

The incident comes after West Midlands Police arrested four people on suspicion of terrorism offences at the end of last month.

Two men, aged 26 and 18, were arrested in Coventry on Tuesday 31 January on suspicion of engaging in conduct in preparation for terrorism under section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

A woman, aged 58, was also arrested on Tuesday (31 January) and a 57-year-old man was arrested the following day on 1 February. They were arrested on suspicion of funding terrorism under section 15 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
