Students from across the world are set to make Birmingham their new home. With Freshers week around the corner, we asked people of Birmingham for advice to newcomers on how to get the most out of living here in the West Midlands.

One resident, Nikki said: “I think Birmingham has such an amazing nightlife that it’s really worth exploring and going into town and Digbeth and just exploring these areas a bit more. That would be my biggest advice to someone coming to Birmingham for Freshers.”

Another resident, James, said:“Just enjoy yourself - say yes to things. Embrace the opportunity to meet new people and have a great time and just be up for the laugh.I remember why Freshers week and it was bonkers. So you’ll have a great time - just embrace the opportunity and and get to know the new people that you’ve got around, that’s what I’d say.”

One Brummie, Ben, said: “Okay, so if you’re moving to Birmingham I’d say probably take a walk around the canals, explore Brindleyplace. Canals can take you as far as you want all the way to Birmingham, Ini back to the city centre and out the other side. Plenty of places in the city centres to drink around the canals with great views, rooftop bars, loads of things to explore and of course loads of shopping as well around the city centre.”

Jill said: “I think just get out and about as much as you can. There’s so many bars or restaurants so they all do deals - midweek deals, find out where the bargains are and it’s not an expensive place to live if you know where to look. And just enjoy the beautiful city for all it has to offer.”
