Selfish fly-tipper caught on camera dumping a huge load of trees into the middle of a road which is round the corner from a recycling facility in Birmingham

A brazen fly-tipper was caught on CCTV dumping "huge hacked up trees" on a Birmingham road – just yards from a recycling centre.

The selfish dumper was filmed getting rid of tonnes of branches and logs on Plume Street in Aston.

Footage from storage facility firm JH Kemp Ltd captured the fly-tipper in action at around 7.45pm on Saturday (May 4). The 1.15-minute clip shows the driver pull up on the road outside the closed industrial units. He then lifts the truck's back up and drives forward to allow tonnes of branches and greenery to tumble onto the road behind him.

The van then speeds off leaving the carriageway partially blocked by piles of green waste. If the driver had looked up as he fled the scene, he would have spotted a sign for a recycling facility just around the corner.

A worker on the road said: “It’s so brazen to pull up in a crummy wagon and dump huge hacked up trees all over the road. I’ve heard of a few incidents of fly-tipping around here so it probably won’t be the last time. The galling thing is that there’s a recycling centre round the corner so it’s not like they couldn't get rid of it all legally."

Birmingham City Council has warned: “We will investigate dumped rubbish and may serve a legal notice to landowners to clear rubbish that attracts or harbours vermin.

“Where we have sufficient evidence we will prosecute fly-tippers. Where dumped rubbish is on publicly owned land we aim to remove as soon as possible, and will prioritise based on location, risk, ease of removal, and available resources.

“Households have a legal duty to ensure anyone taking waste from their house is authorised by the Environment Agency. You should ask to see their waste carrier permit and check the EA’s register. Failure to use an authorised service is a criminal offence.”
