A drug driver who got behind the wheel after taking cocaine in Birmingham has been banned from the road for three years.

Traffic officers spotted Khalid Hussain’s car veering off the road while on patrol in the city centre. They pulled him over on Pershore Road on January 13 and he failed a roadside drug test - while Class A drugs were also seized from the 42-year-old following a search.

Hussain, from Handsworth, was convicted of driving while under the influence of drugs and sentenced at Birmingham Magistrates Court last Friday (November 3). He was disqualified from driving for three years and ordered to pay more than £750 in fines, court costs, and victim surcharge.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “Getting behind the wheel under the influence puts lives at risk, not only your own, but others. Road safety is a priority for us and our partners, including Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), local authorities and the region’s Police and Crime Commissioner.  We joined forces under the Operation Triton banner earlier this year to pledge action to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on our roads.”
