The 24 dangerous domestic abuse suspects from Birmingham wanted by police

From assault, false imprisonment and stalking - these are the 24 domestic abuse suspects currently being hunted by West Midlands Police.

The force has released mugshots of the crime suspects in the run up to Christmas, which can see a spike in these traumatic incidents.

Police have selected the 24 suspects due to the high risk they pose to potential victims and their families - and they are urging anyone who knows of their whereabouts to dial 999.

Aged between 23 and 47 years-old the men are wanted for a range of offences. Some are suspected of harassment and breaching restraining orders. Others are suspected of stalking and coercive and controlling behaviour.

One is suspected of sending malicious communications while another is susptected of assault - all are grim reading as 64,571 domestic abuse related crimes were recorded by West Midlands Police in the year to March 2023.

And this could be the tip of the iceberg as Women's Aid said urgent changes are needed to improve police responses to domestic abuse as many survivors are still hesitant to report it.

Lucy Hadley, head of policy at Women’s Aid, said: "The very low proportion of domestic abuse crimes which currently result in arrests and prosecutions, which continues the steep declines we’ve seen since 2016, remains highly concerning."

West Midlands Police has released the images of suspects aspart of a dedicated campaign to crackdown on domestic abuse called Operation Bluespruce which includes officers working behind the scenes to trace the men.

Detective Superintendent Simon Inglis, from the Public Protection Unit, said: “We hope that by circulating these images, it will encourage people to get in touch with information on where these individuals might be and also to encourage the suspects to hand themselves in. The offenders targeted are deemed high risk based on the level of harm they pose to potential victims and their families.

“We are asking for the public’s help to find these dangerous individuals, because protecting the public is always our main priority.
